Conference-debate at the Chapel of the Manufacture Royale

This Saturday, the Manufacture Royale de Bains hosted a conference-debate as part of the bicentenary of the birth of Julie Victoire Daubié.

Around fifty people came to listen to Alixe Sylvestre , novelist and Erckmann-Chatrian Prize winner 2023 ( Le Gars de la Combe at ETT), Hélène Parisot , Vosges historian and short story writer and winner of the Plume de Vair Prize 2023 ( Les Chuchotantes at Liralest) and Eric Scherrer , activist for the cause of women (CIDFF des Vosges). They debated with journalist Sabine Lesur on the theme "Being born in the Pays d'Epinal, land of inspiration and creation".

The debates were fascinating and the conference ended with a signing session to which was added Véronique André-Durupt , who is publishing this year an "enhanced" version of Julie Victoire Daubié's biography.

See you next weekend of April 13 and 14 for the next bicentenary event: julievictoiredaubie.fr

Being born in the Pays d’Epinal, land of inspiration and creation

Like Julie Victoire Daubié, the first high school graduate in France, many personalities were born in the Pays d'Épinal.

To celebrate the bicentenary of his birth (March 26, 1824), come and chat with Alixe Sylvestre , novelist and winner of the 2023 Erckmann-Chatrian Prize ( Le Gars de la Combe at ETT), Hélène Parisot , Vosges historian and short story writer and winner of the Plume de Vair Prize 2023 ( Les Chuchotantes at Liralest) and Eric Scherrer , activist for the cause of women (CIDFF des Vosges) who will debate with journalist Sabine Lesur.

The two writers will discuss in turn their strong connection with the territory, how it built and shaped them, and above all influenced them in their writings. It will inevitably be about women, women of today but also women of yesterday, with the portraits painted in their works. And their sometimes intense and heavy links with their land, the Vosges. And at the same time their difficult quest towards emancipation and independence. Both economic, returning us to the fight of Julie Victoire Daubié who wrote on "" The poor woman in the 19th century "" and psychological. Eric Scherrer, very involved in the defense of the rights of women and families (CIDFF) will bring both his expertise and also his perspective as a man engaged in this difficult fight.

This exchange will be followed by a signing session. FREE ENTRANCE.

Meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Chapel of the Manufacture Royale de Bains - La Vôge-les-Bains. For those interested in visiting the site, meet at 4 p.m.

Prevention is better than cure...

Last weekend, the Manufacture Royale de Bains welcomed the firefighters of La Vôge-les-Bains for a full-scale exercise.

Two sensitive situations are on the agenda: the fire at the Chapel and the fall of a hiker into the cooler...

Bravo to the 2 teams who mobilized alternately to save the victims and put out the fire.

Thank you to Lieutenant Mickael Frémiot and his teams for this identification of the estate and the water points which, we hope, will not be necessary to preserve this remarkable historical heritage.

The Manufacture Royale de Bains contributes to the national forest inventory!!!

At the end of August, the Institute of Geographic and Forestry Information (IGN) visited the Manufacture Royale. One of its missions is to map France's forests and analyze their condition.

Each year, around 15,000 inventory points (plots of forest land with a radius of 25 meters) are drawn at random for analysis. In 2023, one of these places is located just behind the Maison des Illustres where Julie-Victoire Daubié, 1st baccalaureate in France, was born!

The inventoryists measure the circumference and height of the trees, calculate their age and growth rate and analyze the composition of the soil: it was an opportunity to discover this profession and the different techniques used!

Thanks to Quentin and Alexis and see you in 5 years to follow the evolution of this little corner of the forest!!!

1st Artist Meetings of the Manufacture Royale de Bains - August 12 to 15, 2023

On the occasion of the 290th anniversary of the estate, the association of Friends of the Manufacture Royale de Bains -AAMRB- is initiating the 1st Meetings of Artists of the Manufacture Royale de Bains from August 12 to 15. On this occasion, it invites you to come and exhibit your works and express your know-how , in a magnificent setting listed as a Historic Monument.

The Manufacture Royale de Bains is a former tinsmithery founded in 1733. It is located in the Côney valley, the river from which it drew its hydraulic power. The surrounding forests provided him with the wood and coal necessary for his activities, in particular that of the forges. At its height, it provided ⅔ of the tinplate of France useful for the manufacture of household utensils (pans, basins, etc.), tools as well as ship hulls. It employed more than 800 people.

These 1st Meetings are part of the association's motto ""Non solum in memoriam, sed etiam in spem"", borrowed from the historian Jules Michelet, and they aim to magnify the heritage of the Manufacture with contemporary works.

For 4 days, the AAMRB thus offers artists (known or less known) a showcase for presenting their art and selling their works in an atmosphere conducive to the animation of the Manufacture Royale estate, while preserving the historical spirit of the place.

In this festive setting, there will be the possibility for the public and the artists to sit in the bar and snacks.

To apply, please send a mini-CV and an extract of your works to the following address: manufacture-royale@orange.fr , specifying the surfaces/volumes you would like to have (applications close on August 3, 2023) .

To select the participants, the association will be sensitive to the artistic proposals and the associated animations.

Exhibition place :

  • Indoors, in the former coal hall (300 m2 - up to 10m high)
  • Outside, several lawns near the room as well as a park with remarkable trees
  • Installation of the works on Friday August 11, 2023 from 9 a.m. - Dismantling on August 16 morning

Reception of artists :

Participation in these 1st Artists' Meetings is free with the provision of space and publicity for the event. Moreover, the AAMRB does not have specific funding to pay for the visit of young artists who will finance themselves on the benefit of their presence (sales, publicity). A summary catalog of artists will be produced and distributed. Those who wish can be accommodated free of charge in one of the Manufacture Royale lodgings (up to 15 places) in order to be present on site and in contact with the public (meals remain the responsibility of the participants).

On request, volunteers from the association can help set up allocated spaces, identified on site and referenced on a map.

Special event :

A dinner/barbecue evening will be offered to the public on August 14 with the possibility of light effects and projections on the walls of the factory.

The storms of March 13, 2023: damage to the Manufacture Royale

The storms of this Monday, March 13 did some damage to the Manufacture.

The roof of Corinne and Jean-Jacques' wood shed has blown off and we have several trees that have been broken or uprooted. A fir tree fell very close to our tortillard beech, which fortunately comes out unscathed 😱

The chainsaw is out to restore the park, before the guided tours which resume on March 24 at 2:30 p.m. (the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month).

Move your body on your territory!

As part of the "Move your body on your territory" operation, the Manufacture Royale de Bains welcomed more than 70 students from the schools of La Vôge-les-Bains and La Chapelle aux Bois / Les Voivres as well as from Julie-Victoire Daubié middle school.

They discovered the history of this industrial field which began in 1733 with tinplate then continued, in the 19th century, with the industrial manufacture of nails. They also took advantage of the park and its remarkable trees, in particular the twisted beech and the Douglas fir.

The most attentive have observed the former house of Foremen where was born the first baccalaureate in France who gave her name to the college.

Work to prepare 2023

As the end of the year approaches, we took advantage of the rising temperatures to pour concrete slabs and prepare for the 2023 season.

On the program: a new large bedroom for the Le Baron gite and… a ""surprise"" space in the center of the Manufacture Royale estate.

See you in a few weeks to find out more!!!!
